April L., seventeen-year-old, SMCS high school senior, has been playing the piano since the age of five and currently studies under Rufus Choi. In the summer of 2017, she attended MusicFest Perugia and was selected to perform with Czech Republic’s Brunensis Virtuosi Orchestra in Perugia, Italy. Previously, she has appeared as a soloist with the Beach Cities Symphony and Mount Saint Mary’s University Orchestra upon receiving top prizes at both concerto competitions.
Among other achievements, her most recent ones include winning first place at SYMF in 2019 and 2017, second in the 2019 CAPMT Southern Division Concerto Competition, second in the 2019 MTAC Southern Regional Concerto Competition, semi-finalist at the Redlands Young Artists Concerto Competition, and third place at the 2018 CAPMT State Honors Competition. She has performed in masterclass and lessons for Oxana Yablonskaya, Alvin Chow, and Matti Raekallio.
Her passion for music has lead her to volunteer and help with the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and the GCC Youth Praise Team. On top of all these achievements April maintains academic excellent in her AP courses and is a member in the National Honor Society.
April’s senior year is busy with attending auditions for several universities and conservatories. In November of this school year had her Senior Solo Piano Recital. She beautifully performed the following five pieces;
Bach Prelude and Fugue in G minor, WTC II,
Beethoven Sonata in A-flat Major, Op. 26
Schumann Fantasie in C Major, Op. 1
Carl Vine Five Bagatelles (1995)
Chopin Etude in F Major, Op. 10, No. 8
In addition April has been invited to West Virginia International Piano Competition and Festival at West Virginia University, which she is looking forward to. April is one of the twelve artist chosen out of 164 artist to compete in this years competition.
