Assigning Carnegie
Units to Students in the 7th and 8th grade
Given the unique nature of independent
study, a student can work at the grade level most appropriate for their
ability. Students are always placed in the grade appropriate for their age, but
can work at whatever level suites their educational needs. At times, there may
be a student that is in the 7th and 8th grade that is
working at a high school level and should be receiving Carnegie units based on
our “Assigning Carnegie Units” policy.
If a 7th or 8th
grade student is only taking Algebra One, and not any other high school level
courses, this course cannot be given Carnegie units. If the student is taking
Algebra 1 along with another high school level core course, it can be counted
on their transcript for high school credits.
All Sky Mountain Charter
School 8th grade students will only be allowed to take 2 high school
core courses for high school credit. These courses must meet the Highly
Qualified Teacher requirements and must be a core high school course. Please speak with your ES or the guidance
counselor if you would like to have your child to take advantage of this
situation.
