California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) 2010-2011

Notice to Parents and Guardians

All California public school students are required by state law to satisfy the California High

School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) requirement, as well as all other state and local

requirements, in order to receive a high school diploma. The CAHSEE requirement can be

satisfied by passing the exam or, for students with disabilities, receiving a local waiver

pursuant to Education Code Section 60851 ©, or receiving an exemption pursuant to Education

Code Section 60852.3. All students, including English learners and students with disabilities,

must take the CAHSEE for the first time in grade ten. Students who do not pass the exam in

tenth grade will have additional opportunities in grades eleven and twelve to retake the part(s)

not passed.

What the CAHSEE Covers:

The exam is divided into two parts: (1) English-language arts (reading and writing) and

(2) mathematics. All questions are aligned to California academic content standards that are

adopted by the State Board of Education. Academic content standards describe what students

should know and be able to do at each grade level from kindergarten through grade twelve. You

can download the CAHSEE test blueprints located on the Internet under the title Exam

Blueprints. CAHSEE Study Guides for Math and English Language Arts, as well as released

sample test questions are also available on the Internet at the following link:

http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/hs/resources.asp .

You may also talk with your ES about receiving the study guides.

Requirements for Passing the CAHSEE:

Students must earn a score of 350 or higher on each part of the CAHSEE (English-language

arts and mathematics) to pass the exam. Graduation Requirements: All California public school

students must satisfy the CAHSEE requirement, in addition to meeting all other state and local

requirements, to receive their high school diploma. Students with disabilities and

English learners must also satisfy the CAHSEE requirement. . For more information

Testing Locations:

The students will be have the test proctored by their ES. Students will receive

notification from their ES of the test site location and times. Students must bring a photo ID to

the test site.

2010-2011 Designated CAHSEE Testing Dates:

English-Language Arts/ Math Administered to:

October 5, 2009, October 6, 2010: Grades 11th and 12th

November 2, 2009, November 3, 2010: Grade 12th (11th if they missed the October test)

February 1, 2010, February 2, 2011: Grades: 10th, 11th and 12th

May 10, 2011, May 11, 2011: Make up for all grades
